10 years old Chanchal belongs to Khadwa Mohalla Balrampur and studies at Kendriya Vidyalaya Balrampur. She aspires to become a doctor one day. Her father works in Delhi as a daily labourer at a construction site and her elder brother is studying. Chanchal was diagnosed with poor night vision. After few simple tests it was found that she was lacking Vitamin A.
Dr Girish Chandra and Renu Chandra who head BN Prasad Memorial Hospital had arranged for an eye camp under the theme ‘Prevention of Blindness Among Children’. The camp was help at the KendriyaVidyalaya school and during the screening, Chanchal was prescribed and given Vitamin A capsules. She was also educated on the importance of Vitamin A and what all she should do to prevent its deficiency. Fliers and education material were distributed amongst children to enhance their knowledge in prevention of avoidable blindness.
